Year 6 English Folio/2008 (Reflection & Appreciation)

I would like to thank my English teachers, Pn. Nalini and Pn. Ng who have helped me with their advice and encouragement as I was completing this folio.I would also like to thank my parents for their help and ideas as I discussed some of my work with them. I am truly glad with the completion of my folio. I have also learnt to be patient and more organized as I put all my work together but most of all I enjoyed reading the book Clever Katya.

Year 6 English Folio/2008 (Literature Part 3) Letter To Your Favourite Character

APRIL 2008

Dear Honourable Great Czar of Russia,
Greetings from Malaysia, my honourable Czar. I am Jonathan and I read all about what happened to you and clever Katya. I truly enjoyed myself as I read about the interesting things that happened.
You must be a great Czar.I know that Czars are great leaders in Russia. That's one reason why I like you. I think leaders are important people who make wise decisions as they rule. I like the wisdom and courage that you possess.
I also think you are a creative and confident person. You have great questions for Katya to solve but nothing is too difficult for her, I guess.
It must be very cold in Russia. I have seen pictures of you. I like your coat and the long cloak that you wear. It makes you look grand.
I also like you because I could tell that you are kind but you are sometimes rather stern with Katya. You are kind to her father. However, you need to control your temper when you are angry.
I think I will stop here for now. I will write again later.Take care. Bye!

Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Wee

Year 6 English Folio/2008 (Literature Part 2) Similarities and differences

I will choose the Czar and Katya. The Czar and Katya have several similarities as well as differences in their characteristics. The Czar is clever as he is able to come up with tricky questions for Katya to solve. On the other hand, Katya is also intelligent. She cleverly sloves and answers all the tricky questions with creative solutions. She is also talented. She is able to bake delicious bread. The Czar is also a person to be respected. He is also open-minded as they are able to accept each other's solution to the problems. They are both warm, loving and kind towards one another. The Czar is also good-looking while Katya is pretty. However, while the Czar is a rich and powerful ruler, Katya is just an ordinary daughter of a poor farmer. They came from different backgrounds. Katya is always very positive as she has a solution for every problem while Czar at times is not confident and loses his temper while Katya has full confidence in her love for the Czar.

Year 6 English Folio/2008 ( Literature Part 1) Book Review

The story Clever Katya, by Julia Donaldson, is set during the reign of the Czar of Russia. It revolves around how Katya cleverly convinced the Czar of her love for him. The story begins with how the Czar of Russia met Katya's father who in turn introduces to him his clever daughter, Katya. They soon fall in love. However, their relationship is put to the test when Katya is asked to leave the palace. Finally, Katya did something which eventually convinces the Czar of her love for him. The part which interests me is when the Czar gave the three different tests to Katya and how she cleverly solves them. The book is interesting because of her character, Katya who is not only clever but loving and sincere in her actions. The value of the book also lies in that it shows us we need to be sincere in our relationship and not have other bad motives such as material gain when we build relationships. I will strongly recommend this interesting book to my friends.
